Memory, language, and identity come alive through film, sound, and sculpture in this immersive media installation - My Name is 張麟發 Tommy Lan Phat Truong 2.0. The work traces the evolution of my names and their layered meanings, drawing from my personal narrative as a Chinese-Vietnamese-Canadian. Names, like languages, carry stories of assimilation, heritage, and resilience—stories that shape our sense of belonging.
The installation envelops visitors in a reflective atmosphere through projected animation and an ambient soundtrack that creates a quiet space for introspection. Sculptural cubes made of etched plexiglass—each illuminated from within—present fragmented frames from the film, offering audiences new visual perspectives on its narrative. These luminous structures act as a translation of the film’s visual language, inviting viewers to experience its themes in a spatial form.
Through storytelling, animation, and sculpture, this work seeks to bridge gaps of understanding and foster appreciation for the linguistic and cultural tapestry that shapes our communities. By situating intimate narratives in a shared space, the installation encourages audiences to revisit their own memories of belonging and identity.
