Blind Date 2.0

Title: Blind Date 2.0
Year: 2017
Medium: QR-code, Printed on vinyl banner, Web programming
Size: 54 inches x 54 inches

Description: This installation image was taken as part of the exhibition VPN to IRL curated by Tak Pham at Xpace Cultural Centre, Toronto. An interactive installation examining themes of human behavior and technological obsession. A massive 4.5 feet x 4.5 feet vinyl QR code is printed and mounted on a white wall in the gallery – inviting viewers to interact with it, yet emitting presence and pushing viewers physically away from the wall in order to scan it. When the QR-code is scanned, a webpage is directed to the viewer, and the webpage then displays a series of personal information retrieved from the device (Language setting, location, IP address, dimensions of device, name of device, browers, and if there is a camera). This is a screenshot from a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge visiting the webpage. The webpage also reads the information out loud. Unfortunately, currently the website is inactive.
